Lynx are a genus of short-tailed cat from the family Felidae. This family also includes other types of cats, including cheetahs, lions, leopards, domestic cats, and tigers. The Eurasian lynx has lived up to 21 years in captivity. The Canada lynx is known to live up to 27 years in captivity and between 10 and 16 years in the wild. The bobcat lives between 7 and 10 years in the wild, with one notable exception being 16 years. In captivity, the oldest bobcat lived 32 years. Iberian lynx have a maximum wild lifespan of 13 years.

Several lynx resettlement projects begun in the 1970s have been successful in various regions of Switzerland. Since the 1990s, there have been numerous efforts to resettle the Eurasian lynx in Germany, and since 2000, a small population can now be found in the Harz mountains near Bad Lauterberg. Lynx are medium-sized wildcats that live closer to you than you might think, in dense forests across the United States, Europe, and Asia. There are four main subspecies of lynx, one of which is the well-known bobcat. Bobcats can be found in almost every state in the US.
