For people who are hearing-impaired dropping the subtitles when someone is speaking Japanese is like switching off the audio for people who can hear. Five assassins aboard a speeding bullet train discover that their missions have something in common. There’s this soulless psychotic leader with the largest criminal organization on the planet shoved right inside our fucking ass cheeks. Bring me to this train, frame me as an assassin, here to kill the White Death, and use my gun that will blow up in his face?It definitely does because comic books over do things like story and action and the film seems absurd. The announcement tweet for "Bullet Train’s" new subtitled version (seen above) doesn’t mention a specific reason for the change, but the prevailing theory is the producers realizing that it’s not just linguistic purists (and foreign residents whose Japanese-language skills aren’t up to watching a whole movie in Japanese just yet) who choose subtitled screenings, but also people who are hearing-impaired. In the Japanese-subtitled screenings, are those sorts of subtitles (ones that would normally be in English if you were seeing it in an English-speaking country) in Japanese? It must be (at least) the FIRST subtitle track for most players, but you can also tag the file as "forced" when using mkvtoolnix. Well except for the characters in "Bullet Train" (which takes place in Japan) who are already speaking Japanese, of course, since Japanese moviegoers don’t need subtitles for them, right?

But do they get the same odd translations that the rest of the world get for Japanese--Local Language? Languages: Subtitles are available in English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Latin America), Spanish/Espanyol (Spain), Swedish, Tamil, Greek, Russian, Hungary, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, and Aharamic languages. e. movies with Japanese dialogue from the beginning) don’t screen with subtitles at mainstream movie theaters, so people who are deaf or hard of hearing generally have to wait for a TV broadcast or streaming/home video release with captions.

Wondering about this because I've been thinking of seeing the Avatar sequel when that comes out, and I know that's a movie that probably has a lot of subtitles, since they're speaking a fictional language half the time.

Non-native languages get yellow subs, but if we enabled all subtitles, we get white subtitles for all the dialog.
