About this deal

Tell us the first book you ever remember reading, the one that made you want to become an author, and one that you can’t stop thinking about! This has it all: a slow burn sapphic love story, an agonizingly delicious build of tension, creepy children, reveals that made me gasp out loud.

A compulsively readable jewel of the genre, All The Dead Lie Down , will seize you with an eeriness that refuses to relent. Halfway through the book, we're treated to a flashback of her mother freaking out about even the mention of Alice and I made the effort to tell myself "well maybe she was a child and didn't understand her reaction, and that's why she trusts Alice anyway" but NO.

It seemed to spring out of nowhere and it was very serious very fast, but I suppose that’s what teens are like really. Tidligere kriminalreport er Molly Cates skriver nu om hjemløse kvinder, men undersøger sam tidig sin fars formodede selvmord 25 år tidligere. Only thing I wished more of was more scene building to really bring the gothic horror of the house together. The other characters all have quirks and I love that we slowly get pieces to a puzzle that Marin is trying to figure out.

Evie Hallowell is every bit as strange as her younger sisters, and yet Marin is quickly drawn in by Evie's compelling behaviour and ethereal grace. It's usually done well, but because I've seen so many different iterations of it, an author has to do something really unique for a book about grief to truly win me over. At first, I thought she was going to be a cold character who wanted nothing to do with Marin, but oh no, quite the opposite.I also wanted to show that anxiety isn’t the same as fear—sometimes our anticipation of something, or what we imagine in our heads, is the worst part of it all, and in a moment of crisis, we can really rise to the occasion.
