From Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot to the superhero land of Wakanda, from Lilliput of Gulliver’s Travels to Springfield in The Simpsons, this is a wondrous atlas of imagined places around the world.

Locations from film, TV, books, computer games and comics are ingeniously plotted on a series of beautiful vintage-looking maps. Fascinating and beautiful, this is an essential book for any popular culture fan and map enthusiast. Here can be seen Antillia, a phantom island reputed to exist in the 15th century and which was depicted on several maps at the time. The authors even claim to have found a plausible location for Springfield from the Simpsons, despite that show being notoriously coy and tricksy about its whereabouts.

We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. For example, in Wales, we find Cackle’s Academy, a mountaintop school featured in Jill Murphy ’s The Worst Witch series and disguised to non-magic folk as the ruined Castle Overblow, whilst a few mountaintops away is a rival school of magic operated by Miss Pentangle, and this is only a short flight on a broomstick from Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children on Cairnholme Island. In addition to the maps and the accompanying essays describing the twisty logic that the authors used to finally pin point where these famous locations from fiction are (most likely) located, the Atlas also includes an extensive index along with map coordinates so it is easy to find a particular someplace on the maps (although I think you’ll agree that a magnifying glass is essential equipment for reading these thousands of entries).

Let them show you how to get to Sesame Street, and thousands of other places besides, in this indispensable guidebook to all those places you always wanted to visit. These delightful Where’s Waldo-esque maps are the creation of freelance artist and map designer, Mike Hall, whose oeuvre includes maps and diagrams of real-life botanic gardens, university campuses and hotel resorts, railways, major cities and even entire countries. Sometimes these are easy to work out, but other times a bit of detective work is needed and the authors have been those detectives. Each map is enlivened by small colour illustrations, depicting characters and scenes from various sources featured on each map. Sometimes these are easy to work out but other times a bit of detective work is needed and the authors have been those detectives. So awash in magical schools is this tiny portion of the world that at least a few other mythical educational institutions also reported in the area seem to “have disapparated from the map through a lack of space. A jungle where the animals exchange stripes, spots, and markings each time they sneeze, an archipelago made up of dessert-shaped islands, and a lighthouse so tall you can draw a new galaxy with your finger are just some of the wild places to visit.

And then there's East Cheam, which will be immediately obvious to older, British readers (an invention of Tony Hancock).

It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. Or that two major characters from Doctor Who and Star Trek lived in the same small part of San Francisco? The real joy, though, is simply to browse the maps and make your own connections between very different works of fiction. Locations from film, tv, literature, myths, comics and video games are plotted in a series of beautiful vintage-looking maps.
