About this deal
Sure, there’s also a USB-C to HDMI/USB-A adapter included in the box, but I would much preffer having at least a USB-A slot on a laptop of this sort. As far as biometrics go, there’s IR integrated into the webcam on this XPS 15 9520 series, as well as a finger-sensor in the power button, with Hello support. It is one of the best at reporting accurate core temperatures, especially when a CPU is fully loaded. Bumping the back of the laptop off the desk allows for the hardware to run at higher power for a longer time. Initially, the P Cores run at 95-100 degrees Celsius, but the average temperatures drop to 90-95 degrees once the system eventually stabilizes at around 45W.
First of all, that P16 shouldn't be slow to launch apps or wake up from sleep, the hardware is actually overkill for the requirements that you mentioned. Overall, the XPS 15 9520 provided a meaningful bump in performance over the XPS 15 9510 with a 45-watt, 4-core/8-thread Core i7-11800H. Perhaps an XPS 9510 might be another option to consider, as those are greatly discounted these days. That translates in up to 45W allocated to the GPU in all the titles that we’ve tested, which scaled well with Dynamic Boost, and 15W going to the CPU. Finally, the laptop runs at ~45 W of power when unplugged, on the Optimized mode, which is surprisingly good for battery use.We don’t have a laptop in our Pugetbench database with the same CPU and GPU as the XPS 15 9520, but the laptop’s scores are in line with expectations. The difference between the cooler and hottest Cores is small, though, within 3-5 degrees, so not a concern imo. I also find the metallic edges and the front lip a little too sharp for my liking, biting into my fingers and my writs with daily use. I'd press on Dell if possible on this matter, ask to speak to a supervisor about the change in battery drain when increasing the screen's brightness. They slowed down my old desktop considerably (i5 7th gen Acer all-in-one which had 10 minute restart times that also drove me crazy).
The downside with the color-matched white keyboard is the poor contrast when the white key backlighting switches on. If in the unfortunate event an issue occurs after 30 days, please reach out to us by message and we can advise next steps on paid repairs or manufacturer warranty claims.
Plus, this option is the most efficient of the three, something to consider if battery life with the laptop unplugged from the wall is important for your use cases. Thanks for the png's, yes I have read other reviewers being uniquely impressed with 9520 efficiencies of the 12th gen chip compared to other laptop providers.
