This ‘complete dome of sound’ Atmos point does raise the spectre of the Q930B’s missing rear left and rear right channels compared with the Q990B. However, while these extra channels do increase the general presence of the rear speakers in the Q990B’s overall sound balance, the Q930B manages to disperse its forward side-channel sounds well enough from the main soundbar not to leave you feeling (unless you have a really huge room) as if there’s a glaring ‘gap’ in the Dolby Atmos sound dome. The use of two satellite speaker makes surround sound performance of the Samsung HW-Q950A is much better than the HW-Q900A. The Samsung HW-Q900A may have four discrete surround channels, but in representing surround sound, it relies its four side firing speakers that act as phantom speaker. The sound produced by their side firing speaker will be bounced on the wall, so you will feel that the sound seem to come from the side. Meanwhile, in addition using four side firing speakers on its bar as its phantom speaker, the Samsung HW-Q950A also relies four surround speakers in their satellite. So, surround sound produced by the HW-Q950A will feel more real and accurate than surround produced by the HW-Q900A. But keep in mind, in Standard Mode, two side firing speakers on its satellite will not active. They will active when it is set either “Adaptive Sound”, “Surround”, and “Game Pro” mode. But even so, in “Standard” mode, it still supports 7.1 rear speakers configuration since front firing speaker of their satellite speaker will stay active.
