About this deal

The tip should not only match the species and type of bite you are expecting but, more importantly, the tow and movement on the water. Selecting too light a tip will see it bend round too much due to the flow of water pulling on the line, making seeing bites difficult. Too stiff a tip will see fish dropping the bait due to the extra resistance, and shy bites hard to see. This is why most feeder rods come with several different rated quiver tips. Like all of Daiwa’s rods, the tournament SLR is well-built. The real discretion between the SLR and a cheaper alternative is the materials used. The rod is made completely from industry-leading materials with a strong focus on making a rod that casts brilliantly.

If your venue is full of smaller carp, then a medium feeder rod around the 11ft mark with a more powerful action would be a good choice as you will predominantly be using method style feeders, which comes with lots of casting and hopefully lots of rod bending, so you need a rod that capable of taking some punishment. Similarly, if you're fishing for silverfish on a short line of around 20-40m, an 11ft-12ft would be a great choice, but this time, you want to look for a rod with a more forgiving action. The best medium feeder rods at a glance: A great action for Carp and F1 fishing, a forgiving blank that powers up into the butt section. Perfect for casting up to around 25m. The Middy Arco-tech range has very clever engineering at the tip of the rods, they come equipped with something called “trigger tips” which are much softer than the tips you would usually find on a feeder rod. The thinking behind this is that the softer the tips the better hook up the rate you get, we’re not entirely sure about this but it’s the explanation behind the trigger tips. A soft, seamless through action prevents hook pulls that can lose you a match, yet the rods double up as the perfect winter commercial fishery tools for F1s and carp on maggot feeder and straight lead tactics. That much I’d already been told through reading the blurb, but to confirm these claims I treated myself to a day’s live testing of the 10ft short feeder rod on Decoy Lakes Fishery near Peterborough.

Key Features

Perfect on commercial fisheries, these offer a forgiving blank that powers up in the butt section for dealing and landing big fish! The Tournament SLR feeder rods are mainly suited to mid-long-range feeder fishing. Materials like the X45X Full Shield Bias Carbon and the impeccable construction of the rod all indicate that the Tournament SLR was designed for long-range fishing.

Casting Weight: 50g – Transport Length: 170cm – Weight: 192g – Handle Length: 57cm – Line rating: 4-10lb – Sections: 2 Be it float or feeder, an F1 rod needs to be as soft and as forgiving as possible, to absorb the weighty lunges of a hard fighting fish that just doesn’t know when it is beaten. The PrestonIgnition Carp Feeder Fishing Rod is an affordable and high-quality rod that comes from a comprehensive range of fishing rods perfect for any commercial fishing or natural waters. With seamless actions, these are an unbeatable value! The Preston Ignition Carp Feeder Fishing Rods are perfect for underarms a method feeder in the margin. Each rod is supplied with two carbon tips, 1oz- 2 oz! For budget rods they really are the business. They feel light to hold (to me anyway) have a good action and will bend all the way through when it comes to it (which you can see from the Preston adverts for them) and really power up when the bigger boys try to charge off.

A great all-rounder which is just as suitable for skimmers and bream as it is for carp. Lovely soft action with a powerful butt making it suitable for large match sized carp as well. This rod is ideal when casting further up to around 50m. The 10-footer is preferable for tight swims at a shorter range because it is more accurate and the extended 11ft version is better distance casting. Middy is literally giving two rods inside of one! Honestly if casting if the main priority for you, this is definitely one to for. Quality The car’s temperature gauge was showing it was only 50C out there, and to me it was even duller than another weekend without match fishing, football without a proper crowd, or the basic bloke necessity of going down the pub! Yesterday I used the 11ft pellet waggler rod with a 3000 Shimano Sahara reel and had over thirty 6-9.5lb carp throughout the day. Only lost 2, so not a bad ratio. Was desperate for the double figure but it never came. 0.18 hypersensor (5lb in old money), 6 gram Drennan pellet waggler, size 12 Guru GPW ready tied to 15" of 9lb N-Guage and a wheel barrow full of 8mm mainline pellets. Rod was absolutely perfect handled them all no problem - and some of the carp were very very angry. Casts lovely too but I think the hypersensor line was helping in that respect.

Now, there’s no denying that graphite-built rods (basically a mixture of carbon and glass fibre) have superbly cushioned fish-playing characteristics, especially in the shorter 9ft, 10ft and 11ft lengths. I've both the 9 and 11ft carp feeders and although I've not yet had a double on them I've no doubt they'll be fine. With some manufacturers, there is no difference at all, whilst others provide heavier quiver tips and more powerful fish-playing actions. Generally speaking, you can use a feeder rod with any kind of feeder or bomb. Parabolic Action: A rod that can bend throughout its length but stiffens towards its butt section, providing a controlled cushioning action when playing a fish. NOT so long ago – only last November, in fact – I ran the rule over one of Preston Innovations’ affordable new Ignition Feeder rods. If you're an angler, you know that no two models of coarse fishing rods perform precisely the same. Each one will have its unique advantages and disadvantages that make it more or less suitable for specific needs or users. So how do you decide which feeder fishing rod is the right one worth your hard-earned money?
