About this deal

Daily Mail on The Last Mile Baldacci inhabits the skin of his creations - tripping us up with unexpected empathy and subtle identification A few seconds later he saw her gazing at him. He smiled, and if he’d been wearing a hat, he might have even doffed it to her in a show of courtesy. Kyf Brewer, an Earphones Award–winning narrator, is an actor known for Serial Mom, Stop, Record, and Fallen Arches . In this latest installment, like the previous book, Amos is still working for the FBI. On his way to a meeting in the J. Edgar Hoover Building (world headquarters for the FBI) he witnesses a murder/suicide just outside its doors. His former FBI colleagues, Alex Jamison, Ross Bogart, and Todd Milligan, are once again brought together to solve this horrible crime.

In addition to being a prolific writer, David is a devoted philanthropist, and his greatest efforts are dedicated to his family’s Wish You Well Foundation®. Established by David and his wife, Michelle, the Wish You Well Foundation supports family and adult literacy programs in the United States. Berkshire was now walking faster too. Her gaze went to the left and then swung right. She seemed to take in everything with that one sweeping glance.I usually don’t like to read espionage or political thrillers, but this one grabbed my attention from the start. But midway through it became a bit boring and there were some unnecessary scenes, which could have been omitted. David Baldacci is one of my top favourite thriller writers. His ability to create complex plots is impressive. The characters he fictionalises are such clear 'persons'. I see them and the plot like an action movie in my mind.

Although I enjoyed it I didn't feel it quite lived up to the previous two in the series but appealed more to me personally because I enjoy the characters. Jamison said, “There must be something unless it was completely random. And that doesn’t make much sense either.”He stepped around a barricade that had been set up on the sidewalk and that stretched partway into the street. A manhole cover surrounded by an orange web barrier had been opened and workers were congregated around the area. One man in a hard hat emerged at the opening of the manhole and was passed a tool by another man. Most of the other workers stood around, some drinking coffee and others chatting. Sixty-one, married, with four grown daughters. Has a successful government contracting business. Does work with the Bureau and other agencies. Before that he worked at NSA for ten years. Lives in McLean in a big house. He’s done very well for himself.” Wainwright said, “Heard you guys have solved quite a few old cases over the last several months. Principally the Melvin Mars matter.” DNFed at 31%. This book is written like CRAP. Show, don't tell! I'll never be reading Baldacci again, if all his books are drivel like this one.

It was two guns versus one. The response should have been obvious. Lie down and you won’t fall down. Bogart placed a chair next to the bed for her as Jamison rose and helped the nurse guide Ellie over to the chair, into which she fell rather than sat. The set-up for THE FIX is one of the best this master of the thriller has ever come up with, and there is no letdown as Amos and his associates dig into an increasingly bizarre case ...[Baldacci's] plotting is more masterful than ever, and THE FIX is nothing less than terrific from start to finish. — Connecticut News Walter Dabney is a family man. A loving husband and the father of four grown daughters, he’s built a life many would be proud of. Standing outside the FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC, Dabney shoots school teacher Anne Berkshire in cold blood before turning the gun on himself.A postmortem was legally required even though there was no doubt whatsoever as to what had caused the woman’s death. Well, that’s what the meeting today was about. They were changing our assignment. Cold to hot cases. And since you were on the scene of this one, it made sense to let us work it. So we’re a go.” Walter Dabney, by an extraordinary twist, was not dead. Not yet, anyway. The doctors at the hospital to which he’d been rushed held no hope that he would recover, or even regain consciousness. The bullet had tunneled right through his brain; it was a miracle he had not died instantly. Anne Berkshire lay on a metal table in the FBI’s morgue. All her clothes had been removed and placed in evidence bags to be later analyzed. Her naked body was under a sheet; her destroyed face was covered as well, although the fabric was stained with her blood and destroyed tissue.

Mrs. Dabney, we can arrange to have your children brought here when they get into town,” he said after a few moments. Yes. We confirmed that he was meeting to go over a project his firm was handling for the Bureau. All routine.” We spoke with his wife. She’s hysterical. The kids are spread all over the place. One lives in France. They’re all coming here.” I recall being a little confused in book two as we met new players and those I thought I knew disappeared. Kinda. I have to admit I couldn’t really remember anyone other than Amos, but vaguely recalled former Alex Jamison… the former journalist, so was glad she was still around. And… it was nice to see Melvin Mars return for an encore appearance after meeting the former prisoner in our last outing. Memory Man was one of my favourite books of 2015. Although I enjoyed The Last Mile I didn’t find it quite as appealing in the addictive way I felt about number one (and now) number three.

Alex Jamison was in her late twenties, tall, slim, and pretty with long brunette hair. She sat on the right side of the hospital bed in the CCU. Ross Bogart, an FBI special agent in his late forties, with a bit of gray the only thing marring his perfectly combed dark hair, stood ramrod-straight on the left. His fingers clutched the bed’s safety rail. This is the first Baldacci book I’ve listened to. I enjoyed the surprises in the story line. Not boring like others I’ve listened to. Will definitely listen to more of his books. " — Cindy , 10/22/2017 David Baldacci has been writing since childhood, when his mother gave him a lined notebook in which to write down his stories. (Much later, when David thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she’d given him the notebook to keep him quiet, "because every mom needs a break now and then.”)
