The Cult has proven to be a divisive story, in large part because it doesn’t portray Batman as the tough, capable hero he normally is. But his failures in The Cult only make his eventual victory that much more satisfying. 18. Batman: The Court of Owls Collects: Batman #512, Batman: Shadow of the Bat #32, Detective Comics #679, Robin #11, Batman #513, Batman: Shadow of the Bat #33, Detective Comics #680, Robin #12, Batman #514, Batwman: Shadow of the Bat #34, Detective Comics #681, and Robin #13 Year 100 is different. Not just because it's set in the future. This is the rare Batman story that doesn't try to hang tight to the Bruce Wayne version of Batman. It's fresh and new and exciting. And yet, it has some very clear connections to Batman: Year One, keeping this wild fantasy of a futuristic Dark Knight tethered to the core mythology. 7. Batman & Dracula: Red RainBatman #251, 260, 286, 291–294, 321, 353, 365–366, 400; The Brave and The Bold #111, 118, 129–130, 141, 191; The Joker #1–10; Detective Comics #475–476, 504, 526, 532; Wonder Woman #280–283; DC Comics Presents #41, 72; Justice League of America #77 Collects: Batman #373, Detective Comics #530-538 And 540-544 And World’s Finest Comics #297 And #299

The particulars of “Time and the Batman”get quite timey-wimey. If you really want the full ordeal, I recommend the CBH Morrison Batman guide. You have two options with New 52 Batman. You can either start with the first issue and “The Court of the Owls” story arc, or you can start with “Zero Year,” which is a variation on the classic early days of Batman as told in Year One . I’ve tried it both ways, and I actually prefer “Zero Year” first, but your mileage may vary. Collects: Batman #65, 86, 112, 113, 134, 156, 162, Detective Comics #215, 235, 247, 267, World’S Finest Comics #89

New collection of Jim Starlin’s time writing Batman overlaps with “A Death in the Family” collection below. When Batman alone isn't strong enough to save the world…could a team of heroes-in-training help?Batman: Detective Comics Omnibus collects together the stories of your favorite heroes from the Batman Universe! With Batman, Batwoman, and Nightwing fighting to defend it, is Gotham safe from any potential threat? …Or is there a monster still lurking that would be able to take them down? Batman decides to recruit young vigilantes and train them to be a team worthy to face any evil that may come to Gotham–will this vision for a team of Bat-Heroes be able to take flight or will it go down in flames? And what would Batman consider threatening enough to require a team?Showcase #94–96; The Superman Family #191–193; New Teen Titans #13–15; DC Comics Presents #52, Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #7–9; Teen Titans Spotlight #9; Secret Origins Annual #1; Doom Patrol (vol. 2) #1–18, Annual #1; Doom Patrol and Suicide Squad Special #1; Superman #20; material from New Teen Titans #10; Invasion! #2–3 Collects: Batman #232, 235, 240, 242, 243, 244, Detective Comics #411, 485, 489, 490, and DC Special Series Volume 2 #15. Collects: Batman & Robin Adventures #19 To #25 And Annual #2 Gotham Becomes A No Man’s Land (Late 90’s To Early 2000’s) A year into his crime-fighting career, Batman has only faced mobsters, thugs, and a few crazies. Monster Men is Batman's first encounter with anything super-human. Hugo Strange is creating monstrous creatures, stronger than the Dark Knight and with a mindless thirst for blood. Now, Batman must adapt to a new kind of villain. This is the moment where Batman goes from street legend onto the path of superhero. It’s a testament to the strength of both Batman and the creative teams responsible that the Dark Knight escaped the controversial New 52 relatively unblemished. If anything, Snyder and Capullo gave us a new great run to talk about for years.
