About this deal

As it stands though I’m more likely to reach for my more convenient battery-powered pump when it comes to squeezing a few extra PSI into my tyres. Like most of the other inflators, it comes with three attachments so that you can inflate footballs, bouncy castles and whatever else your heart desires. This means that the engine has to work harder, leading to more fuel being consumed — it’s estimated that if your tyres are under-inflated by 10%, fuel consumption will go up by 2%. Is it worth getting a tyre inflator? The LCD screen allows you to preset your tyre pressure and the pump will keep going until it's inflated sufficiently. On our test car, a 2017 Peugeot 208 XY, the official tyre pressures are 2.5 bar front and 2.3 rear for a normal load. With a full car, these increase to 2.5 front and rear.

You have swipe left on each vehicle; then a menu option appears which says ‘Edit’ or ‘Delete’. Hitting ‘Edit’ then going into ‘Tyre Setup’ allows you to edit all the info. Additionally, it comes with an LED light complete with three modes, so you can use it to warn ongoing traffic if you are in an emergency situation. Under the base, there is a well-designed cord storage area that prevents too many kinks from occurring, as well as a handy area to store the included nozzles and adaptors. When you have all your vehicles set up with the correct pressures, the app is terrific. It makes keeping on top of your tyre pressures super easy. It’s going to be my go-to tyre inflator from now on.When attaching the pump to your tyre valve using the screwed air hose the current tyre pressure will be displayed on the screen after a few seconds. Using the small yellow dial on the front you can set your desired pressure and then press it in to confirm your selection. Then at the bottom is a big power button that you can't miss - this gets the inflation process underway. You can then either press the foot button to inflate the tyre or the green ‘Tap to inflate’ button on your phone. It will then start inflating until you get to your selected pressure before stopping. The inflator is easy to use, thanks to the flat design, large on/off button and valve cap storage. The deflation valve allows you to make small reductions in pressure. If you prefer, you can change from the default PSI to Bars or kPA by pressing down the dial (see below). This will cycle through the pressure measurement options available.

Inflators that come with cases always win extra brownie points on our book, so it’s a good start for the RTC1000. The other additions are also a great touch, the amount of times I’ve had to top the tyres up only to be left with hands covered in grime and brake dust for the rest of my journey, not anymore. It would make more sense for the Ring Connect app not to give you any tyre pressures at all and for you to fill them in manually. At least then you know they’d be correct. Before this one we owned the RAC630 which has been a great servant over the years, and I fully expect this one to live up to expectations too. Would I recommend it? Yes. Designed with one-button control, it is straightforward to use and comes complete with three accessory adaptors. With a respectable maximum pressure of 80 PSI, a 2.9-metre power cable that connects to your car’s 12V outlet, and a 48cm air line, this mini tyre compressor is a highly functional piece of kit.Ideal for inflating car tyres or sports equipment, The Ryobi One has an easy-view pressure gauge and a powerful motor for rapid inflation. It allows up to 150psi of pressure and includes two high pressure nozzles and a sports and ball needle if required. The Ring RTC1000 Tyre Inflator is a 12V digital rapid pre-set air compressor from Ring Automotive. The inflator comes in a storage bag (always useful!) but also contains some protective gloves, which are ideal for protecting you from the dirt on your wheels and valves. It has a large digital display that shows the current pressure reading and your target pressure, plus a status indicator across the middle. The inflator sits on four rubber feet to prevent it scuttling around your driveway, while the air hose wraps snugly beneath the device. The same can’t be said for the 12V connector, though, which must be wrapped around your hand and cable tied before it can be reinserted into the inflator.

I’ve used it to top up car and motorbike pressures and once to seat a stubborn tubeless tyre on a mountain bike. I like the screw-on fittings and long hose but generally think a digital gauge is easier to use than an analogue one. It’s a hefty bit of kit, but super speedy and surprisingly quiet. Extra long 70cm air hose with easy access storage compartment specifically designed to reduce kinks As mentioned before, driving on under-inflated tyres mean that there is more friction between the tyre and the road. Rechargeable tyre inflators can be extremely useful when on the move, as they're completely portable and can be used anywhere. While there are plenty out there, one of the best is Halfords' rechargeable inflator, which features a max pressure of 120psi as well as an auto cut-off function.Another welcome feature is the long power lead, which winds up inside the unit. There is also a recess on the side in which the air hose fits, so everything is neatly out of the way when not in use. And it comes with a zipped grey carrying case as well.
